I got my first significant punishment in class 6.
I was in class 6 in a school I freshly changed to. Two students used to sit on each bench. Social studies teacher, Mrs. Tiwari was about to arrive in the class for the lecture.
In her class, all students were supposed to keep the current page of the chapter under study open on their desks.
I was not in possession of the subject book at that time. In such situations, students used to borrow a book from nearby mates, if both on a desk have it.
I asked for borrowing a book from two mates (Ravi and Prabhat) sitting on the desk just behind me, as they both had brought their books.
Me: Ek book dedo yaar me laya nahi.
Ravi: Lo, par faarna nahi.
Me (in sarcastic sense): me toh faarunga.
Ravi: phir me nahi deta.
(He took his book back)
(In a while, teacher arrives)
Teacher: Children, open your books.
Ravi: Excuse me mam. Yeh keh raha tha ke yeh meri book faarega.
Teacher: Book faarega? Go and stand outside the class.
I kept standing outside the class for whole of the period of approx. 45 min.
What made it happen?
Both of the guys belonged to a category of population called as Scheduled Caste in the country's constitution. (I didn't know it at that time)
Perhaps, they were aware of the special protection and power given to them by the constitution, which they "tried to test" and got succeeded in it.
How did they get protection and power through the constitution?
Due to the misinterpretation of the word varna which is mentioned in a variety of Vedic texts.
